A few points to keep in mind when considering purchasing garage cabinets,
Raw particle board and or cold rolled melamine costs close to half of what thermofused melamine costs because it is lower quality or as the name says it is raw.
A cabinet without a back is not as strong as a cabinet with a back
The weight of the cabinet and its contents are carried by the sidewalls and the load transfer to the floor is stronger than to nothing
A cabinet assembled with screws and or steel studs is by far stronger than staples
Thermofused melamine panel is more resistant to moisture and scratching than is Cold Rolled Melamine
1/2 or 5/8 board thick board does not hold the same weight load as 3/4″ board
3/4″ board does not hold the same weight load as 1″ board unless it has a corrugated stiffener then it will hold more weight
Raw particle board will stain or warp or deteriorate when subjected to oils and liquids
Oils and liquids can be wiped from thermofused melamine
Cabinets with part of the hinge on the outside are unsightly and presents low grade appearance and quality
Garage cabinets with a center stile present problems when using large boxes
Over the years we have heard “Its only a garage” The one group of professionals that we have never heard this phrase from is Realtors
What does your garage cabinets say about your home?
When we started making garage cabinets there were a couple decisions that had to be made which concerned costs and quality.
First would we hang our cabinets from rails mounted to the wall and notch our cabinets to sit on these rails. We had already experienced garage cabinets in Prescott AZ made with this system that were coming off the wall because the rail had not been properly installed or the notch on the of the cabinet had broken down, so we install our cabinets with screw rails on the back of each garage cabinet box and secure into wall studs.
Second, Would we use a underlayment substrate to save costs or a commercial/Industrial grade that has proven to hold fasteners better. All of our panels are made with commercial/Industrial Substrate
Third, Would we use cold rolled melamine which is a paper glued to the substrate and is prone to peeling or should we use a thermally fused resin melamine that is baked onto the substrate for a more durable finish. There are garage cabinets in Prescott Valley that are made with cold rolled melamine similar to which you would find in west valley phoenix that are peeling and deteriorating because the climate in the Prescott area is different here than in the valley and paper glued to particle board will tend to peel given time and or scratching
Fourth, One way to save costs is to have adjoining panels so for every two compartment we would only be using 3 side panels but all weight would be concentrated on the center panel. We make our garage cabinets with individual side panels so that each compartment will stand on its own and bears its individual compartmental weight.
Fifth: Build the cabinets with a base and toe kick, build and hang the cabinets with space underneath or build our Garage Cabinets off the floor on legs. Building garage cabinets on the floor with a toe kick and base is fine in a sandy dry environment but the Prescott area is a clay soil area that captures moisture and releases this moisture during the day when the sun heats up the ground and this moisture in drawn through the concrete into the wood of the cabinet which eventually rots the wood plus creates a great place for insects to escape pesticides. Hanging a 500lb cabinet (before anything is loaded onto the shelves) and hoping that a stud finder is correct each and every time, well enough said. So we decided that we would take that 500lb garage cabinets and screw into the studs but put leveling legs underneath that would hold up to 450lbs each.
Sixth; Do we save time and money by stapling our garage cabinets together or do we use proper cabinet fasteners? This was the easiest no brainer that we had challenging us.
We had been asked many times by home owners to repair the garage cabinets they had that had been stapled together and were now separating. The sad aspect was that the companies making these cabinets in west Phoenix had little desire to repair their cabinets and would attempt to put off the homeowner as long as they could.
Bottom Line: We build and are known for quality so we do not cut corners to compete with the low lines. If you are looking for quality garage cabinets with reasonable pricing then We Organize-U garage cabinets are the ones you are looking for.
Decorative Melamine panels consist of melamine, resin saturated decorative papers, thermally fused under heat and pressure to a substrate of particleboard. The thermally fused melamine process permanently bonds the paper and the board therefore there is no glue line to delaminate.
The panels are perfect for a host of applications including cabinets, commercial casework, store fixtures, residential/institutional furniture and closet/garage organizational systems.

Have you considered the less expensive cabinets available? Take a look at what a little water and temperature change does to these cabinets. You can see the paper separating and crinkling off the board and the board starting to split. Are you okay with saving money and getting this result down the road?
